Ah yes, late-January and early-February, the traditional time of year when everyone and their mother releases their top prospect lists and the fans respond with completely disproportionate levels of anger/excitement/confusion. Yep, there is nothing like seeing random fans freak out because one of their team's prospects ranked in the top 75 but not the top 50 or because one prospect rated with only three stars instead of four. It is all just so ridiculous and ultimately inconsequential that I can't help but get in on the fun. Of course, I'm not prospect guru, so my rankings are a little different. Rather than rate the top 10 Angel prospects by their talent and potential, I'm simply going to rank them according to how much I like them... even if they kind of suck (ok, talent is still going to count for something, but you get my point).
I'll save you some suspense, not even I am crazy enough to have someone other than Mike Trout at number one.
I linked to it earlier this morning, but I think it merits further discussion and investigation. Could Mike Scioscia someday be inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame as a manager? So many fans and experts alike consider Scioscia to be amongst the elite bench bosses in the game today, but with only 17 managers ever being elected to Cooperstown, Scioscia is going to have to end his career with a pretty impressive resume. Is his current body of work even close to good enough and what, if anything, must he do if he really wants his portly visage to appear on a plaque in the Hall of Fame?
Is winning the Angels their only championship enough, or does Sosh need to win it again to get to Cooperstown?no comments

OK, I'm going to try something new. I've been looking to add a special feature for each day of the week and thus far haven't come up with anything for Wednesday, until now. I'm calling this "What If Wednesday" a weekly piece in which I will simply throw out a hypothetical for everyone to consider. No analysis or pontificating on my part, just thinking out loud and hopefully generating some discussion. Let's see how it goes, shall we?
This week's What If is all about Brandon Wood and what might happen if, and I almost can't believe I'm saying this, he winds up having a strong Spring Training.
Wood actually good? Is that even possible?
I know the Vernon Wells trade only happened less than two weeks ago, but somehow the Angel newscycle feels as if it is now completely and totally dead. Try as I might, I can't think of anything compelling to pontificate about right now and you know what that means... time for another installment of Monkeying Around! I think this is actually the first Monkeying Around (aka a collection of random, half-baked thoughts) since I re-launched the site, so I guess that should be considered a moral victory on my part. OK, enough screwing around, let's get random!
Pray for Mojo and pray for something newsworthy to happen for the Halos so that I have something to write about.
