The February 11th, 2014 edition of daily news for the Los Angeles Angels including Pujols and Clark resolve lawsuit, Angels sign Brandon Lyon and much more...
The Monkey Says: Thus mercifully sparing us all what would've been a circus of a trial. Pujols gets his vindication here as Clark had repeated the allegations more than once. That won't undo the damage Clark did, but it is a start.
The Monkey Says: This was a fleetingly exciting signing for me as I saw the news break on Twitter. Seeing "Angels have signed pitcher," as the first part, I thought they finally got around to adding someone else to the rotation, but alas, it was just Lyon. He is nothing but a scrubby veteran reliever. He will get a shot to compete for the Opening Day roster, but if he makes the team, it means something has gone terrible wrong.
The Monkey Says: It is official, the Angels have signed so many NRIs that even the reporters can't keep track of them all anymore. De La Rosa has no big league experience and appears to be signed just to serve as a catcher with a pulse.
The Monkey Says: But he is behind other pitchers, which means that is far from a sure thing. Call me when he actually pitches in a live game.
The Monkey Says: That's... a good thing? Hey, everyone expects the Angels to disappoint. Hooray!
The Monkey Says: I'm closer to a straight "B" right now. I would bump it up to a "B+" if they actually added someone else to serve as rotation depth. So, you know, feel free to get around to that at some point soon.
The Story: Baseball teams and their contending window.
The Monkey Says: The Angels are on the border of the "WIN NOW" and "MAKE THE TEAM BETTER" portions of the graph, which pretty much signifies the tough position they are in where they could go all out this year, forfeit their first-rounder and sign Ubaldo Jimenez or stand pat and save money for a more well-planned run in 2015.
The Story: Mike Trout is pretty good at baseball.
The Monkey Says: I dunno. That seems like a pretty outrageous claim.
