The July 12th, 2012 edition of daily news for the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim including a hypothetical trade offer for Zack Greinke, Halos not interested in Brian Fuents, Weaver and Trout favorites for end of season awards and much more...
The Monkey Says: I think that proposal is close. You will note that it does not include Peter Bourjos which many fans have assumed would be involved. As I have said before, he is too much of a proven commodity to be forked over for a rental. Any Greinke deal would be strictly for prospects, although maybe Walden gets tossed in if the Brewers really like him. The only thing I find wrong with the package in the article is that it includes Ariel Pena whereas I think the Angels would try and convince a team to take Johnny Hellweg instead since he is of similar value but not as close to the majors as Pena.
The Monkey Says: I think he would've been worth taking a no-cost gamble on since the pen could use another lefty in middle relief... oh well.
The Monkey Says: Weaver has the best odds for the Cy Young but Trout only has the second-best odds for MVP. None of this means anything because Vegas prop bets have no bearing on the awards, I just don't have a lot of interesting stories to post because we are still stuck in the All-Star break dead zone for news.
The Monkey Says: It can only help. If they make it as a Wild Card playing that stupid one-game series with the other Wild Card will make it harder for them to win in the ALDS, but if that is really an insurmountable obstacle, then they probably weren't going to win the World Series anyway. I also think it will be a good thing for the Halos to keep pushing for the AL West crown so that they don't have to play that Wild Card series as it will keep them playing hard all season even if they lock up a Wild Card with a few weeks left in the year. Or at least that is what I am going to tell myself to make it OK when the Angels don't win the division. Whatever the case, Mike Scioscia will still find a way to gripe about the way the post-season schedule is organized.
The Monkey Says: Apparently having a brutal July schedule somehow sets them up for a strong second half? Yeah, I don't get it either. This is also probably a bad time to mention that all those injured Texas pitchers are due back real soon. The Halos are going to have their work cut out for them.
The Monkey Says: This is the biggest contribution Cassevah has made to the Angels all season long.
